MATCH PREVIEW V YORKSHIRE CARNEGIE

Bedford Blues welcome Yorkshire Carnegie to Goldington Road on Saturday afternoon in what is sure to be an exciting Greene King IPA Championship encounter.

When the two teams met back in October, fans were treated to a rollercoaster encounter which saw Carnegie rack up a 38-24 lead before a converted Chris Czekaj try in the 75th minute set up a grandstand finish. Bedford scored in stoppage time when Alex Penny stretched over the line, but Will Hooley's conversion attempt cruelly cannoned off the inside of the upright and bounced over the wrong side of the bar meaning the hosts took the spoils 38-36.

Bedford returned to winning ways a fortnight ago with a workmanlike victory over Rotherham Titans at Clifton Lane, but know that they will need to be far sharper during this weekend's challenge.

Looking ahead to the game, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "Carnegie will no doubt be hurting from last week’s loss down in Cornwall so that immediately makes them a wounded animal. On top of that you only have to look back at our game up in Leeds earlier in the season, where they showed there ability not only to maul the life out of you but their ability to strike from a long way out!

"It's been a tough week in training and the weather hasn't helped things, but after a week off everybody is champing at the bit to get back out on the pitch and put in a good performance in front of our fans."

Rory Hutchinson and Lee Dickson return to the Blues back line while the only change up front comes with Jordan Onojaife starting in the second row, and Huw Worthington takes a place on the replacements bench.
