Bedford Blues will be making the long journey down to Penzance this weekend to take on the Cornish Pirates as the Greene King IPA Championship reaches the halfway point of the season.
Last season's fixture at the Mennaye was a truly remarkable one with both sides playing a Barbarians-esq style of running rugby with defence playing second fiddle. End-to-end action saw the game resulting in a 40-40 draw thanks to a last gasp converted try for the departing Myles Dorrian who had worn both jerseys while on English shores.
While it is unlikely that the same style will be adopted this weekend, games between the two sides are always entertaining and both sides will be looking to finish the first half of the season with a flurry.
Looking ahead to the game, Blues player/coach Lee Dickson said: "We were pretty pleased with how things went last Friday and will be looking to build on that. Our accuracy let us down once or twice in Hartpury’s 22 but overall it was a very good controlled performance. Our aim now is to improve our away form, not that it’s been particularly poor, it’s just that we haven’t delivered to the same level on the road. Pirates, after a slow start, have started to pick up some significant wins of late so we’ll need to bring plenty on the day and make sure we enjoy the challenge ."
Bedford make four changes to the team tat started against Hartpury last weekend with Michael Le Bourgeois and Dean Adamson returning to the backs while Sean McCarthy and George Edgson get the nod in the front row.
