Good luck to the Blues Academy Development Squad players in action this weekend around the globe!

Fly-half  Dan Lewis starts again in the 10 jersey for North Otago in their home game against Kings Country in the Mitre Heartlands Championship.

Scrum-half James Lennon and winger Ryan Hutler are in the Bishop's Stortford squad to play Plymouth Albion at home. Both James and Ryan played for the Blues in their warm-up fixture against Plymouth at the beginning of August at Goldington Road.

Bedford Blues are delighted to announce five new players who are joining the Blues Academy Development Squad for the 2017/18 season.

They have trained all the summer pre-season with the Blues first team squad, with their Strength & Conditioning programmes being overseen by Sean Vine, the Blues S&C coach.  If they are not playing for the Blues, they will play with a partner club in the National Leagues where they will have the opportunity to develop by playing regular league rugby.

Good luck this weekend to the Blues Academy Development Squad players who are in action for the Blues and for their partner clubs.

Second row Ben Kelland and winger Ryan Hutler both start for the Blues in the final pre-season warm-up game away at Blackheath.

Full back Joe Green and flanker Joe Britton both start for Cambridge away vs Bishop's Stortford, whilst centre Matt Riddington starts at 12 for Bishop's Stortford against them.

Meanwhile, 12,000 miles away, Dan Lewis is starting at 10 for North Otago away to Horowhenua-Kapiti in first round of Heartlands Mitre Championship.

Whilst the Blues players prepare for their pre-season warm up game against Plymouth this Saturday, one of the Blues Academy Development squad players is hitting the headlines in New Zealand.

Fly Half Dan Lewis, who has been playing for the Valley club in the Citizen’s Shield competition in North Otago this summer, has been getting some good write ups in the local press, ending the season as the competition’s highest points scorer and second highest try scorer.  Valley lost to the Old Boys club on Saturday in the final of the Citizens’ Shield play off competition by 20pts – 13.

10 years ago, on May 7th 2007, Courtney Lawes and Duncan Taylor played in the Bedford Blues Academy U19 side that beat Redruth, 30pts – 5, in the final of the National Colts Cup at Franklin’s Gardens

Today they line up against each other for Northampton Saints against Saracens in Round 20 of the Aviva Premiership at Stadium MK.

Duncan, now 27 yrs old, wins his 100th cap for Saracens, whilst Courtney, 28 yrs old, plays his 188th game for Saints.  Duncan has also gained 18 caps for Scotland, and Courtney 58 caps for England.
