Congratulations to Blues Academy fly half, Dan Lewis, who has been selected for the England U18 Clubs & Schools XV.

Lewis, who is studying for his "A" levels at St. Joseph's College Ipswich, has been selected after captaining the London & S.E. Divisional side in the England trials at the weekend.  He follows in the footsteps of Academy full back Aaron Morris, who was selected for England U18 Clubs & Schools last season, and who has moved on to the Blues 1st XV and the England U20 squad this season.

The Blues Academy lost to the Eastern Counties Under 20 XV, at Thetford, by 25pts – 19.  In a game played in 3 x 25 minute periods the Blues were 10-0 down at the end of the first period; they fought back to 13-12 down at the end of the second period, before losing by 25-19 at full time.

The Blues Academy beat the Saracens Academy, at Allianz Park, on a misty winter evening by 19pts – 15.  At 10pts - 0 down after 10 minutes it looked like a tough evening ahead for the Blues, however with a tough physical performance from the Bedford forwards, they fought back to be 10pts - 7 down at half time, and went on to a well deserved win by 19pts – 15 against the RFU funded Saracens Academy, coached by Don Barrell and Ian Vass.

The Blues Academy welcome the New South Wales Country XV to Goldington Road on Sunday, Kick Off at 2.00 pm.

The New South Wales Country Rugby Union (NSWCRU) claim to be the largest Rugby province in the world and cover over 80% of the regional and rural areas of New South Wales outside the Sydney metropolitan district - over one hundred clubs with a Senior, Junior, Schools and Women player base of over thirty six thousand people.  The NW Country U18 XV are touring the UK and playing games against Glamorgan Wanderers and Oaklands College/Saracens as well as Bedford Blues Academy.

Having controlled the play for much of the game, poor Blues defence in the middle of the game allowed Oxford University to stay in touch.  After taking a half time lead of 19pts - 12, Bedford gave away two tries in the first ten minutes of the second half to give the students a 24pts - 19 lead.  The Blues changed their game plan in the last 20 minutes, kept the ball tight and attacked through their forwards to score the winning try and to close out the game for a 26pts - 24 win.

At 10 pts all at half time this game could have gone either way.  The Blues started well, but with two players in the sin bin at the same time, the Blues Academy lost their way in the middle of a disjointed game, to lose by 29pts - 15 to the older students side.
