There are two aspects of the covered terrace debate:
Ability for more people to see the game
Protection for these people in 'inclement' weather.
It seems to me that the club has started to address the former by slowly improving the standing areas down towards the players bar and opposite with the scaffolding standing area. If this strategy is maintained and viewing is enhanced to allow extra supporters a good view then it stands to reason that with additional revenue it would not be a great leap forward to then proceed with some form of cover for the same areas.
All we would then need to do is blow up the followers hut Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy and put some tiered standing in that area.
Job Done.
Hopefully something could also be done about the congestion, both inside and outside the gates on matchdays.

'Blow up the Followers hut', like it although I doubt if Geoff and Margaret would Laughing Perhaps they could move into those porta loos!

What happened to the stands we used to have back in the prem? Think at one point we had one either side of the shed plus the long one. What was our published capacity at that time, does anyone know?

Was it 7,500 with the additional stands? rings a bell.

Buy a Blues umbrella or waterproof. There is no such thing as bad weather just inappropriate clothing.

Are you going to be running training courses on how to stand on stilts whilst holding an umbrella, Bernie?

Surely the Bedford faithful are able to form up with smaller people at the front taller at the rear. Any school kid does it for their photograph.

All the school photographs I ever had taken had the kids at the back standing on benches and the ones in the front sitting down.

My (serious) point is that - covered or uncovered - we need more adequate terracing.

What was our stated capacity when we had all the stands at GR in our Premiership days??

If the RFU change the criteria for entry to the premiership to say 7,500 capacity could we achieve that with temporary stands and stay at GR?

don't the goalposts keep moving on this one?

not sure how reliable the site is, but the website Statbunker has the 00/01 season the Blues average home about 1.500, last season 2,600.

though that is down on the year before, by about 200 (but if that includes the B&I cup which was not a good run last year could explain some of that)

something does need to be done to improve the terraces which casual, new supporters may use. even if it is not covered some raised terrace? is the issue that a raised terrace prevents any possibility of turning the pitch 90 degrees in the future if wanted?

Lots of discussion has gone on before about covered terraces for Bedford.

You will be able to see just what has been achieved at Jersey when some of you go over in September. They really are functionable.

Jersey are investing a lot of money into the ground and are currently carrying out more improvements

Jersey rugby certainly live within their means, do not spend what they do not have, and certainly live within their means with lots of ambition for what they are going to do.

If by 'living within their means' you mean only spending the vast amounts that their sugar daddy is pumping into the club, then yes. Should he pull out, they'd be back in the same boat as the rest of us.
