Maybe we could reach a compromise here, why don’t we let Charles Wells give the club some money and put up some stickers calling it the Eagle Bar. This will keep them happy and give the club some cash.
I am sure that long standing supporters will revel in rebelling against this and insist on using the Jack Pope name instead, which will have the effect of keeping them happy as well. I remember Jack and acknowledge that he was one of the unsung heroes of the club until he passed away. Personally I tend to refer to the former member’s bar as the ‘upstairs bar’, but maybe a third option is one too many right now.
Cheers

| CXXXLS, and excellent idea, especially the rebelling bit. Good compromise. |

Whilst looking to see if I had won anything in the Followers Christmas Draw I found this on the followers page.
Please look for updates of the above schedule in the Followers Office, the Matchday Programme, the web site or the notice boards in the Scrum Hall Bar or the Jack Pope Bar.
The last 3 words make it official enough for me.
ps I couldn't find the results as promised by Mrs Markham in another thread. Any ideas? |

We will call it whatever we want it to be know as! Just because it has changed it's name doesn't mean we will call it by it's new name! For example : Charles Wells instead of Wells & Young's!!

Charles Wells hasn't changed it's name to Wells & Young's. Charles Wells still exists, and I think I am correct in saying that Charles Wells owns 60% of Wells & Young's, and Youngs 40%. The new brewing company brews both Wells and Youngs beers. |
I didn't realise that! But what I was getting at was the rugby aspect - Wells & Youngs sponsoring the club - most people refer to it as Charles Wells rather than Wells & Youngs. Even Sam, I think, slipped up a few weeks ago & announced it as the Charles Wells stand instead of the Eagle Stand.

| Charles Wells should focus on working out how to get their beer as good as the pub over the road - rather than changing the name of the Jack Pope Bar - better beer would sell more product not more advertising! |

| Totally agree Alan - what better advertising than to improve the products on offer. |

| I have met with the man who is a legend at Goldington Road, Martin Bartlett, he is the new landlord of The Devonshire Arms. |

Changing the name of the Jack Pope bar to the 'Eagle bar' wouldn't make me want to drink Eagle Bitter. Personally I think that it's fowl. _________________ Adeste fideles |

Where do we draw the line here. Jack was a stalwart of the Club and like many others of his era the Club wouldn't be here now. If the bar is renamed as some not to be concerned about - what if Goldington Rd was ro be re named the Charles Wells stadium. People may rebel but once a name is lost it tends not to be resurected.
Do Charles Wells really wantv to alienate supporters - leave the memory as it is. |

| I still call it 'the members bar', but I remember Jack Pope,'the Pope', who is still remembered at the RAFA club Ashburnam Rd through his kind post-humous donation of some brilliant commemorative plates of war-time aircraft and also, possibly, past rugby exploits, in Bedford. I doubt if he would have been too concerned, so long as our great rugby club and tradiition continues. If that means extra revenue- the god of new worship -as a committed supporter, I would say let it be. |
