I hear a rumour that Charles Well want to rename the Jack Pope bar as the Eagle bar.
Jack was a true stalwart of Bedford rugby for many years, the pos
aitions he held and the tasks he undertook are too many to name.
Although he was the last person who would want to have his name enshrined forever in the lore of Bedford rugby, he deserves it.

Please vote your opinion.

Sorry messed up the first one, hopefully this will work

Well put Bernie. Bedford don't lose your own identity. Remember those that served.

To rename it to Eagle means one thing, free advertising.

Come on you Blues supporters V O T E now.

I doubt it's free advertising. Probably paid for in the sponsorship deal.

Sponsorship deal. Where is the monopolies commission when you need it?

Whilst I am sure that the club has a great deal to be grateful to Jack Pope for, I think we also owe very considerable gratitude to Charles Wells and all our other sponsors, without whom we simply would not have a club at all. I think, in these difficult financial times, we would be wise to avoid seeming churlish in our attitude towards organisations with a long history of supporting us. If I were Charles Wells, I might find suggestions about 'free publicity' a little irritating, to put it mildly.

Anything advertised is free publicity to the majority whether it be multi national companies or the sweet shop down the road advertise, we read it,its free.

Yes of course the club and supporters are very very grateful to Charles Wells for all their sponsorship over the years but similarly Jack Pope and others are on an equal par without them where would we be?

Remember it is nothing definate as of yet. But this is a forum so lets have your views and votes.

Charles Wells is a well run business, they will not be upset at all by open ended discussions thats what business is all about, or is it?

the club would go down in my estimations a great deal if this were to happen. I agree we need the money, but let's be honest how long would it be the eagle bar?

Surely there is something else they can put their name to or many build something new?

I knew I had seen this discussed before but took a while to find it. On 31 October, PutnoeBlue, who always knows a thing or two, said:
"One thing you couldn't replicate at home--- I may have dreamed this bit but am sure was served in the Jack Pope bar (the one that is also now known as the Eagle bar !!!) by a Norse Goddess and a scantily clad she devil".

If what Bernie says is true then it would seem tha Jack wouldn't mind it being called the 'Eagle Bar'. Obviously I did not know him so maybe opinion isn't as valid as others. Also if it helps the club survive/go forward (through additional income) then I imagine that he would have welcomed this?

We will call it whatever we want it to be know as! Just because it has changed it's name doesn't mean we will call it by it's new name! For example : Charles Wells instead of Wells & Young's!! Laughing

If it is called the Eagle Bar then fine - but I'm sure most will contine to call it the Jack Pope Bar.

I think that Bernie is referring to respect and tradition, something of which BRUFC has always been proud, look at how popular the former players lounge is. God forbid that we become one of those mercenary clubs where people only turn up for the money and clear off when the money appears to dry up.

Spot on red.

How can anybody call themselves a Bedford fan and not know about Jack Pope? I don't suppose you knew Ted Keep either?

Charles Wells hasn't changed it's name to Wells & Young's. Charles Wells still exists, and I think I am correct in saying that Charles Wells owns 60% of Wells & Young's, and Youngs 40%. The new brewing company brews both Wells and Youngs beers.
