The Six Nations has been a pretty dire competition for the past decade. Grand Slams are two a penny (unless it's England trying to get one). They have been won by mediocre teams against very poor opposition. They are won more often in the Six Nations (when you would have thought it more difficult) than they were in the Five Nations. That begs the question whether professionalism has brought anything to the table (other than a cash cow for the RFU and very expensive match day tickets at senior club level). Having said that, the first weekend of this year's Six Nations was special and France take the wooden spoon, so it's not all bad.

Well said GB. if it was a poor competition this year and they didn't win it, what does that say about England ?

They say "One bad result does not make a bad team" but conversely, one good result against the All Blacks in a friendly does not make a world class team.

Sir CW, at half time on Saturday, smugly predicted that fitness would play a big part, and that the last 20 mins could be decisive. How right he was, although I'm not 100% sure that's what he had in mind !
