WORK WITH THE BLUES

Are you a Strength & Conditioning Coach looking for your next role? Do you fancy joining one of the most exciting rugby teams in the UK? Have you got at least 12 months experience working with elite level sport athletes? If you can answer yes to these three questions then you could be the person for us!

Bedford Blues are on the lookout for a brand new Head Strength & Conditioning Coach reporting directly to the Director of Rugby. Working in a dynamic and innovative environment, the successful candidate will take a lead role in planning, delivering and reporting on all aspects of the Strength & Conditioning programme of the Senior Playing Group.

In addition to this, the role will involve undertaking rehabilitation and return to play duties with injured players within the senior training squad.

The Role:

  • Develop and implement individual strength & conditioning programmes that enhance the physical attributes of the senior players within the Blues Squad
  • Complete regular testing with all senior players and keep up-to-date records of the development and progress of each player daily
  • Monitor and report training loads and playing loads of senior players to ensure physical development goals are met across the season
  • Act as a first point of contact for senior players for advice regarding nutrition and supplementation
  • Manage and quality assure the work of the interns working within the Academy Player Develop Group
  • Monitor players in aspects of their wider lifestyle (sleep, diet, social life etc), which will affect their physical development and progress within a professional rugby environment
  • Working alongside the medical department, develop and deliver return to play programmes with all senior squad injured players
  • Produce regular and accurate reports on the progress of all injured players and report these back to coaching and performance staff as and when required
  • Provide match day support at both home and away matches including such duties as transporting the match day kit and set up of the changing rooms.

The Person:

  • Degree level qualification in Sport Science or a related discipline
  • UKSCA accreditation or international equivalent
  • Minimum of 12 months experience of working within a Strength & Conditioning department in elite level sport
  • Good understanding of elite level rugby union and knowledge of developing young athletes
  • Organised, efficient and self-driven in all aspects of work
  • Capable of developing effective relationships with other staff members and players alike
  • High level of IT skills, with the ability to analyse and present data to coaching & other performance services staff
  • A sense of Humour!
