Bedford Blues are delighted to welcome Jake Sharp back to Goldington Road after the fly half signed on until the end of the season.

With Harry Sheppard being ruled out for several months with an ankle injury, Bedford have secured the services of the former Coventry, London Scottish and Saracens number ten who spent the majority of his career with the Blues.

Having amassed 188 appearances in a Bedford jersey between 2009 and 2017, and scoring an impressive 698 points (23 tries, 155 conversions, 82 penalties and nine drop goals) in the process to make him Blues sixth highest point scorer of all time, Sharp is back looking to add to that total having left Coventry earlier this month.

Speaking about the signing, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “With the injury to Harry, we have been left short at number ten this season and while huge credit has to go to Ed Coulson and Lewis Robling who have both stood in brilliantly, we really needed to add a fly half to the ranks and who better than Sharpy.

“Jake has a huge amount of Championship experience and he knows our style of play very well. People also forget that he is only 27 years old, so he really is in the prime of his career and we are delighted to welcome him back to Goldington Road.”

Commenting on his return to Goldington Road, Sharp said: “Leaving Bedford and the Goldington Road faithful was always one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to do as a player, so I am thrilled to be returning once again and pulling on a Blues jersey. I’m incredibly grateful to Mike and Geoff Irvine for giving me this opportunity to return and cannot wait to run out for the Blues once again.”

Sharp could make his first home appearance against Ampthill, and his brother Josh, on Boxing Day. Buy your tickets online now and receive a whopping £5 discount.
