Bedford Blues are thrilled to announce that Wasps duo Piers O'Conor and Alex Lundberg will both be available to the Goldington Road club for the 2016/17 Greene King IPA Championship season.

Following a hugely successful campaign, 21-year-old prop Lundberg and 20-year-old fullback O'Conor will be back with the Blues once more for the coming season.

Speaking about the latest signings, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "Piers and Alex made a huge impact during their time with us last season and I'm very grateful to Wasps for allowing them to spend another season with us at Goldington Road. Both lads had plenty of game time last year and I'm sure that another successful season in the Championship will benefit their Premiership futures hugely."

Wasps’ Senior Academy Manager Matt Davies said: “We’re really pleased that both Alex and Piers will return to Bedford on a dual-registration basis next season. Both players have benefited from their time there on loan last season and we’re all looking forward to watching as they continue to improve in Mike Rayer’s side.

"Bedford is a club that lets young players thrive and we’re confident that it is going to be a good environment for the both to continue their development next season."

Eastbourne College-educated, O'Conor was with Lewes, Hove and played for Heathfield & Waldron Colts in 2012/13 before moving on to Worthing Raiders, Henley Hawks and then Wasps. He first appeared for England U20 at full back against Wales at Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay in February 2015 and scored a stunning long-range try in the 19-14 win over Ireland at Donnybrook three weeks later. O'Conor had a superb Championship season in 2015/16 which included him scooping the Greene King IPA Player of the Month for February.

Lundberg’s rugby education began when he was six, trying his hand at the local club, Wasps Amateurs, and taking to it immediately. He progressed through the ranks at school and twice reached the Daily Mail Cup semi-finals but, much to his frustration, never got his hands on the trophy. After playing most of his rugby in the back row, at 16 Lundberg made the gradual progression to the front row where he has had plenty of success, but can easily revert to flanker if needed.
