After a great season on the pitch the Club have once again turned their attention to the summer ground improvement and refurbishment programme.

In 2015, following the additional RFU funding of £50,000 for the development of facilities, the Club spent over £70,000 in total to ensure both player and supporter experience met with the standards required, and this year we continue to build on that approach with a projected investment of £80,000.

The project has prioritised the following key improvements for this summer:

  • The Blues Marquee is to receive a full refurbishment and facelift with the work starting in July. We are grateful to the Friends of the Blues for their support in this work.
  • Resurfacing work will take place on the main access road to the ground as well as the walkway behind the main stand.
  • We will be installing a new Fire Alarm System throughout the ground as part of our Health & Safety improvement programme with the generous support of one of our main sponsors Fire Safety Services.
  • A host of additional ground standard and health and safety compliance matters including the welcome support of Wady’s Electrical in reviewing the historic wiring of Goldington Road.
  • Updating of general facilities including new doors, storage areas, ceilings, trunking etc with particular thanks to David Gibbs Carpentry.

Blues Director Geoff Comb said: "In addition to the long list of ground improvements we have already started our general summer maintenance programme of cleaning, painting, fixing and general making good. We are indebted to The Followers who support us throughout the summer with this work through their regular Saturday morning working party and other efforts throughout the week.

"We are also extremely grateful to SDC, one of our main sponsors, who have undertaken on our behalf a full survey of the grounds, including our drainage system, identifying a number of required improvements. The pitch was the subject of a lot of work last summer to improve the drainage and we are again looking at opportunities to undertake further work this summer.

"Our emphasis is aimed at enhancing our spectator experience and enjoyment while also ensuring our ground and facilities meet all the statutory requirements."

Supporters will hopefully have noticed improvements last year including new flooring around most venues and even in the apron area of the stand, whilst new plans with improve the outlook and service of the bars and decoration to hospitality areas.

The professional game is making clubs review what they have to offer both on and off the pitch and the RFU agenda appears to be driving those required improvements by a process of regulation and financial support.

The Blues are well placed to meet the requirements; we are the 14th best supported Club in England, with our average gate last season being 2,595. As the RFU develop their approach the facilities we offer is a key component to ensuring we maintain and develop our own position.
