A taste of the West Country will be coming to Goldington Road in May with the launch of the town’s very own Sausage and Cider Festival on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th.

The event takes place at the home of the Blues and celebrates real cider made by artisan producers around the country and the art of sausage making, along with an array of live music acts and family activities to keep the party going.

Speaking about the event, Gareth Alred, Operations Manager at Bedford Blues, said: “We are looking forward to hosting Bedford’s first Sausage and Cider Festival this May. We are a community club and hope the event will attract plenty of families, both within our demographic and new people to the ground.

“The festival will take place on our training pitch and around the ground, the aim is to make the event an annual knees up for the town at the end of the rugby season.

“Sausages and cider are to rugby what strawberries and cream are to tennis – or so we plan to make it. There are few things that go better together and we are delighted to launch the event after discussing with a few key Bedford people over a few drinks.”

The festival will be organised by The Original Sausage and Cider Festival Co., run by veteran event planner Crispin Slee.

It will be a home-coming for Mr Slee, who grew up in Bedford and played his first game of rugby as a mini for the Blues.

He said: “It’s great to bring this event to Bedford having been approached by Gareth Alred, I was actually coached by another Gareth (Davies) at the Junior Blues over 40 years ago.

“He was fantastic and his warmth inspired me to spend a lifetime around rugby, now President at the Blues, I can’t wait to buy him a pint of cider to say thank you for his inspiration.”

A minimum of 30 real ciders will be available at the festival and the sausages will range from artisan hot dogs to Polish kielbasa, along with other street food.

Bedford Sausage and Cider Festival takes place at Goldington Road, home of Bedford Blues, on Saturday May 13, from noon to 10pm, and Sunday May 14, noon to 7pm.

There will be live music throughout the event and a free family circus - for kids big and small! Tickets are on sale via Eventbrite. Adult tickets are discounted to £7 in advance, click here to buy now.
