RUGBY'S BIGGEST PRIZE EN ROUTE TO THE BLUES

In less than three weeks’ time, the Webb Ellis Cup will visit Goldington Road as part of the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour on Tuesday 18th August with your chance to take a ‘trophy selfie’.

Bedford Blues will welcome rugby’s greatest prize between 20:00 – 22:00, with a public event open from 19:30 in the Blues Marquee for all supporters to view and take a selfie on stage from 20:30 when the Trophy enters.

Whilst the East Midlands host a closed World Cup reception in the Scrum Hall, the Marquee will be open from 19:30 with an informal gathering led by MC Sam Roberts. Interviews and music will lead the entertainment with the bars open all evening and food available from 20:30 in the Scrum Bar as the most recognisable Trophy in Rugby arrives in Bedford.

The event is non-ticketed and open to all, but there is a maximum capacity in the marquee which will be stewarded throughout the night.

Bedford Blues Chairman, Geoff Irvine said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Rugby World Cup Trophy Tour and believe it is a great opportunity for supporters and children alike in Bedford to see this special Trophy in the build up to this year’s exciting tournament.

“It’s free to come in and see the Trophy and hopefully inspire the next generation. A lot of work has gone into this year’s competition and we are pleased to give Blues fans to chance to see the Webb Ellis Cup first hand.”

As well as welcoming the big prize, Goldington Road will host members of the 2nd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment who will be collecting on the evening for East Midlands chosen charity, the Mobbs Memorial Charitable Trust. Accompanying the soldiers will be members of the Junior Blues who will form a Guard of Honour as the trophy enters the marquee.

With three matches just down the road at Stadium:MK and plenty of Blues fans already registered with ‘The Pack’ as Rugby World Cup volunteers there is set to be a great buzz around the region come September, so get into the spirit early at Goldington on Tuesday 18 August.
