Perfect Player: Here is the opportunity to play Dr Frankenstein and take attributes from any player in the world past or present to make up the ultimate rugby player. The attributes can come from anywhere, but the creation would play in your position.
Strength: Andrew Sheridan – Brute force
Size: Bakkis Botha – A monster human being who has the intimidation factor
Athleticism: Sergio Parisse – can do most things that a back can do as well as having unbelievable lineout skills, speed and time on the ball
Winning lineout ball: Imanol Harinordoquy – He has destroyed England’s lineout over the years, unusual for a number 8 to be so dominant, but has earned respect throughout the world.
Handling: Carlos Spencer – That’s all I need to say
Hitting rucks and mauls: Julian White – Could destroy a maul and ruck. Such an aggressive man
Tackling: Sam Betty – I played with Sam at the Pirates and Worcester. The man is mental and I have never met a player with such a disregard for his body. Rarely misses a tackle and is fearless.
Ball carrying: Zinzan Brooke – The Ultimate Number 8. Brian O’Driscoll – Best player of the current generation and should be Lion’s captain.
Directing mauls: Joost Van Der Westhuizen – Niggly with great organisational skills.
And finally… legendary drinking ability: There are a few candidates at Bedford but John Cannon, a Canadian international, wins as he could produce unbelievable parties and some great memories
