Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that two more members of the front row club have put pen to paper on new deals to remain at Goldington Road.

Returning for another season in a Blues jersey to bolster the front row will be prop Alex Penny and hooker Jacob Fields.

Penny is an uncompromising tighthead prop who has England Under 16 honours and made a huge impact for Henley Hawks before securing a move to Ealing Trailfinders. While at Vallis Way, he played 24 times and scored two tries in his debut season and helped the west London club secure promotion to the Championship. Penny remained an integral cog in the Ealing machine before making the move to Bedford in the summer of 2017 bringing a wealth of experience with him. Penny made 27 appearances for the Blues scoring one try along the way and made a massive contribution in helping Bedford to finish third in the Championship.

Packing down with Penny for another year will be exciting hooker Fields, 25, who has continued his development while at Goldington Road. Having come through the Bath Academy, Fields moved on to Loughborough Students where he benefitted from the coaching of George Chuter while also completing a degree in Sports Science and Management. On the pitch, Fields brings real dynamism around the park with his chop tackling being a real big feature of his game. Fields made 16 appearances for Bedford this season contributing two tries to the team who reached the British & Irish Cup semi-final.

Speaking about the latest re-signings, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "Alex and Jacob have been in great form for us this season and have both made telling contributions to the team by giving us excellent options whether starting or coming on to make an impact.

"Alex is an experienced tighthead prop who has plenty of Championship experience under his belt and Jacob continues to play with a maturity far beyond his age. I'm really pleased to have them both with us once again and excited to see them continue their excellent work."

Alex and Jacob take the squad number for the 2018/19 Championship season up to 23 as they join new signings Ed Coulson, Oli Curry, Charlie Clare and Hayden King along with current Blues players Huw Worthington, Ryan Hutler, Justin Blanchet, Camilo Parilli-Ocampo, Dean Adamson, Rich Lane, Will Carrick-Smith, Harry Sheppard, Josh Buggea, Will Hooley, Ed Taylor, Lee Dickson, Alex Rae, Jarad Williams, Chris Czekaj, Sean McCarthy and Ben Cooper.
