Bedford Blues kick off their British and Irish Cup campaign with a trip to Carmarthen on Sunday afternoon as they prepare to face the Scarlets Select squad.

The Blues head into the game off the back of a dramatic late victory over Yorkshire Carnegie after Steffan Jones converted an 80th minute penalty to seal a 22-21 win.

Looking ahead to the game, Blues defence coach Ian Vass said: “Last week’s game was extremely attritional and took a lot out of the squad but with the game moving to Sunday, we’ve had an extra day to prepare and the lads have responded superbly.

“We’ve been very pleased with our league form this season and now we have to carry that into the cup. While we don’t know exactly what lays ahead of us, we do know that heading to Wales is always a big ask no matter what team you are facing. We certainly won’t be taking anything for granted.”

Bedford make a handful of changes from the team which beat Carnegie with Ollie Dodge, Henry Staff and James Pritchard starting in the backs while Tom Williams, Sam James, Mike Howard, Justin Blanchet and Joel Conlon all start up front.
