Bedford Blues have named their team to take on Nottingham in the first round of the British & Irish Cup this Sunday at Lady Bay.
After six league games, the two teams are evenly matched having won four and lost two and they have an almost identical points for and against record. Games between the two are always hotly contested and much of the same can be expected this weekend.
Looking ahead to the fixture, Blues Backs Coach Paul Larkin said: "After a good start to the season, we turn our attention to the British & Irish Cup with the intention of progressing as far as possible. We know it won't be easy as we are in a tricky group with Ospreys, Munster and Sunday's hosts Nottingham who have made a great start to their Championship campaign. Games against the Green and Whites are always tough and usually decided by just a couple of points, I'm expecting much of the same on Sunday.
"While the opposition is tough, this is a great opportunity for our players to really stick their hand in the air and stake a claim for a starting place. Competition for a jersey at Goldington Road is tough and I hope that everyone gives the coaches something to think about going forward in the season."
It's all change for the Blues as Mike Rayer takes the opportunity to rotate his squad. There is a welcome return to Matt Gallagher who has re-joined the Blues on dual registration from Saracens and goes straight into the team at fullback. He's joined in the backs by Ryan Hutler, who makes his first competitive start, Ollie Dodge and Lee Dickson who is named Captain. In the pack, Camilo Parilli-Ocampo, Ed Taylor and Jack Nay all start.
