MATCH FOCUS: COVENTRY ARE BACK IN TOWN

The Blues will be looking to make a return to winning ways this Saturday 26th January when they welcome old rivals Coventry Rugby to Goldington Road in the Greene King IPA Championship (KO 3pm).

Following a tough encounter in the Channel Islands last weekend, the Blues now sit five points behind Jersey going into Round 13. A win for Mike Rayer’s men could see them draw back alongside the Reds who travel to league leaders London Irish on Sunday.

Coventry arrive in town on the back of an impressive home win over Cornish Pirates, beating the West Countrymen by one point, 18-17. The visitors currently lie seventh, chasing at the heels of the Blues and having beaten Bedford already this season at Butts Park Arena, they will travel in confident spirit.

With a long history between the two clubs and having last met in Bedford in September 2009 as the Blues ran out 42-6 victors, there will be much anticipation for this weekend’s tie. Become the Blues 16th man and book online discounted tickets here.

As always at the Blues there will be plenty to see and do off the field. Make sure you arrive in plenty of time and grab a programme on your way in before heading to one of our bars to soak up some pre-match atmosphere. Our choice would be the upstairs Eagle Bar where you will find a great selection of hand-pull ales, including this week’s Guest Ale; Banks’ Sunbeam as Dry January finishes early at Goldington Road.

There is last minute hospitality space remaining in the Blues Marquee; to enjoy a delicious pre-match lunch with entertainment from MC Sam Roberts and Blues players from just £44pp, email hollie@bedfordrugby.co.uk to book now.

As the teams run out, give a big Blues welcome to both sets of players as well as the children from Bedford School Under 10s who make up the Autoglass Guard of Honour with Bedford Bear.

At full-time make sure you hang around for the presentation of the Anglian Fasteners Man of the Match award in the Blues Marquee, which will be followed by live music from new act and Bedfordshire based, singer-songwriter Leon Bratt, who will be getting your weekend party started!

As always, the Eagle Bar will be the place to be for the Michael R Peters Final Whistle. Enjoy live post-match reaction from players or coaches; and remember you can win yourself a pint of Greene King IPA just by asking a question!

Don’t forget to wear you colours! The Club Shop is stocked up with the latest range of leisurewear items as well as replica kit, accessories and more. The shop is located just outside the entrance to the Marquee.
