Bedford Blues are back in action at Goldington Road this Saturday 3rd March for a decisive clash with Yorkshire Carnegie with the winner holding a top four spot (KO 3pm).

The Leeds based outfit come off the back of a defeat at seventh placed Cornish Pirates allowing the Blues the chance leapfrog them into third should Bedford take the spoils with Doncaster Knights playing on Sunday.

Before last weekend however, Yorkshire were on a six-game unbeaten run and having narrowly beaten Blues at Headingley earlier this season, Mike Rayer’s men know they will be in for a sizeable challenge.

The Blues last encounter was nearly a fortnight ago against Rotherham, when an early Bedford lead and half-time advantage of 15-0, nearly came crashing down as the Titans rallied back. A late Blues penalty from the returning Will Hooley gave the Blues a much-needed win in the dying stages.

Games between Bedford and Yorkshire are always close and hard-fought encounters and nothing less is expected this weekend. Tickets for the match can be purchased online, saving £4 each adult, by clicking here.

On arrival pick up a match programme and make your way to one of the friendly bars around the ground to wet the whistle before what is sure to be a cracking afternoon of rugby. Our choice would be the upstairs Eagle Bar for a pint of Guest Ale ‘Drink’ from Charles Wells’ Wandering Brewer Project and the Titanic Brewery.

Marquee hospitality is again sold out already for this fixture, but there are plenty of other places around the ground to grab a bite to eat including the famous ‘Nos’ Nosh’ located in the Scrum Hall, as well as the option of a juicy burger or hot dog from one of our other food outlets.

Ahead of Saturday’s kick off there will be a minute’s silence in respect to the passing of Doncaster Knights prop Ian Williams last week. The club are sending their deepest sympathies after the tragic passing of a talented player and former Oxford Blue during a Knights training session.

This week’s SSG Guard of Honour is formed from Riseley Primary School and Oakley Academy who were the Year 3 and 4 winners of the Bedford & Kempston and North Bedfordshire School Sport Partnerships competition. Let’s give them and the Bedford Bear a loud cheer as the teams run out.

A big welcome also to today’s Blues Community Partner Club, Sutton & Epsom Rugby Club Under 13s, who have travelled up on tour this weekend.

After full-time our Anglian Fasteners Man of the Match will be presented in the Marquee followed by live music from the returning Mark Calder.

If you’re looking to mull over the match in a slightly quieter environment then head up to the Eagle Bar where the Michael R Peters Final Whistle will have all the immediate post match reaction and expert analysis from both coaches and players.

It’s sure to be a chilly one on Saturday so don’t forget to take a look in our well-stocked club shop where you’ll find plenty of hats, scarves and jackets, as well as all the latest Replica and leisurewear. Remember as always to show your season tickets for 10% off any purchase.
