Lost 39 - 0

Leicester Tigers Academy gave the Blues Academy a lesson in clinical finishing and how to take your chances, in a 39pts - 0 win at Oadby.

Tigers were limited to possession in the first half, as they played into the wind, but gave Bedford a lesson in the importance of taking your chances.  Bedford started well, but after 20 minutes of pressure on the Tigers line had nothing to show for their efforts. Bedford worked hard to recycle ball and gained a number of penalties from pressure on the Tigers.  The resulting line outs were well executed and the initial drives were successful, but the Tigers pressure resulted in the Blues making errors and turning over possession and position.  Leicester scored first with an interception try from winger David Williams, before Williams and full back George Fossey scored again to give the Tigers a 15pts - 0 lead at half time.

Playing against the wind in the second half Bedford's half backs worked positions to drive the ball from their own half to gain ground.  The Blues worked some good field positions, but again the Tigers showed dogged defence to force turn overs and create try scoring opportunities that they took advantage of.  Leicester scored four further tries in the second half from prop Owen Hills, second row Matt Hubbart, No 8 Ed Milne and centre George Worth, with fly half John Hargreaves kicking two conversions, to give the Tigers a 39pts - 0 win.

Blues Academy Director, Denis Ormesher, said .... "Leicester gave us a great lesson in how to take chances.  We developed a number of good scoring opportunities but we did not finish them.  You need to work hard to build scoring chances  - you don't get too many opportunities to score against a side like Leicester and you need to be able to take them.  Tigers were clinical in their finishing.  They showed why they have already beaten Wales U18s and Canada U20s already this month.  Playing against sides like Leicester Tigers is a great test for our team, and shows them the standards they need to aim for."

"We play the England U18 Clubs & Schools XV at Loughborough University next Sunday.  This will be another tough test, and a chance to put the lessons form the Leicester game into practice."
