Bedford Blues are delighted to learn that fly half Will Hooley has been called up to the USA squad which will compete in the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) in February.

The announcement of Will's inclusion to the Eagles travelling squad was made today (Thursday 4th January) by Head Coach and former Worcester Warriors, Natal Sharks, Bath and Newcastle supremo, Gary Gold.

Cambridge born Will, who joined Bedford in the summer from Exeter Chiefs, qualifies for USA through his grandmother who was born and raised in Hollywood, California.

Speaking about his inclusion to the squad, Will said: "I'm absolutely delighted to have been called into the USA squad for the Championship. It has been a really long process, but to get that call saying I was in was really exciting and I can't wait to grab the opportunity that is in front of me.

"Moving to Bedford and playing regular rugby has really helped me to come a step closer to achieving my ambition of international honours and I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone at the club for their ongoing support."

The USA are the defending champions of the ARC and will begin their title defence with three consecutive home matches in California, starting on 3rd February against Argentina before facing Canada a week later and then Chile on the 17th February. The Eagles then head south to face Brazil on 24th February before finishing their campaign in Uruguay on 3rd March.

"I think we have an exciting group of players who are keen to perform at the ARC and put themselves forward as strong options for the program moving forward," said Head Coach Gary Gold.

"We will focus on the strengths of the team and the areas that we believe are the most critical in terms of allowing us to improve as a squad. At this stage, we really need to have a precise focus on the improved performance of the team and allowing our players the opportunity to gain critical experience."
