END DRY JANUARY AT THE BLUES THIS SATURDAY

Whilst the New Year seems a long while back, this Saturday the Blues run out at Goldington Road for their first Championship game of 2017 against play-off hopefuls Doncaster Knights (KO 3pm).

Two poor Cup results have left Mike Rayer’s men hungry for a good performance against a very strong Knights side, currently sitting third in the table after reaching last season’s play-off final and narrowly missing out on promotion to Bristol.

Losses against Yorkshire Carnegie and Newport Gwent Dragons resulted in the Blues exiting the British & Irish Cup in a similar manner to this Saturday’s opposition, both sides will now be fully focused on Championship rugby as the race to the business end of the season heats up.

With the sad loss of London Welsh just confirmed from the Championship, the gap between Bedford and Donny increases to 14 points with the Knights remaining third in the table after the Exiles’ previous results this season have been expunged.

The Blues last faced Doncaster in September at Castle Park with the hosts narrowly defeating Bedford 30-22 in a seesaw of an encounter. The fixture is set to be another close affair with the home side needing to be at their best to overcome Clive Griffiths’ men with the help of a strong 16th man at Goldington Road. There is plenty in store off the pitch to keep you entertained either side of the 80 minutes of action. Pick up a match programme on entry to the ground and head up to the Eagle Bar to sample this week’s Guest Ale; Bombardier Pale Ale or head to any of the watering holes to discuss this week’s rugby news.

Marquee hospitality is again sold out and we look forward to welcoming all our guests for a brilliant day in the Blues Marquee pre-match, if you’ve missed out, why not head to Nos’s Nosh for pre-match grub and an inside scoop!

As the teams run out, please give both sets of players, the Bedford Bear and this week’s SSG Guard of Honour from Hitchin Hedgehogs, a loud cheer to warm us all up this January.

Post-game we’ve got a real treat for you as the talented Sophia Soul performs in the marquee so stick around to enjoy live music from this modern day diva as the after-party starts. MC Sam Roberts will no doubt give her a warm welcome following the Anglian Fasteners Man of the Match presentation.
