The squad building process for the 2014/15 season continued this week as Bedford Blues signed another exciting young winger as well as securing the services of three more of the current squad.

Dean Adamson, 21, has been in superb form for Ampthill Rugby Club this season and is the most prolific try scorer in National Two South with 22 under his belt. The youngster, who came through the Blues Academy, was on trial with Bedford last summer featuring in the pre-season friendlies before heading back to Dillingham Park.

Speaking about the capture, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “Dean is another talented young winger who plays with a lot of confidence and has a clear eye for the line. To sign developing talent such as him and Jim Wigglesworth from Cambridge is great for us as a club and they follow a well trodden path of some pretty good players before them.

Joining Adamson next season will be three more of the Blues current crop of players after Paul Tupai, Mike Howard and Ollie Dodge all put pen to paper on new deals.

Tupai, who turns 40 later this year, has been an exceptional servant to the club since joining from Northampton Saints in 2008. Standing at six foot four inches tall and topping the scales at 113kg the lock/number eight has continued to be a driving force in Bedford’s pack and shows no signs of letting up anytime soon.

Howard joined the Blues from North Walsham in 2008 and has proven to be one of Rayer's most astute signings. The powerful lock is one of the key men in the Blues scrum and certainly isn’t afraid to clear out a ruck when needed. The 29 year old all-tackling man from Norfolk has continued to combine well with his second row counterparts and his stock has certainly risen since coming under the tutelage of Bedford Forwards Coach Martin Hynes.

Dodge, who represented England at Under 19 and Under 20 levels, has been with the Blues since joining on loan from Leicester Tigers in 2006. Two years later the winger-come-centre, who is the son of England scrum half Paul Dodge, signed permanently with the Blues and has continued to be a battering ram of a player ever since.

Talking about the re-signed players, Rayer said: “To have the experience of Ollie, Mike and Paul will be invaluable as we look to put this season behind us and get back towards the top of the table next time around. All three have been with us a long time but continue to do a fantastic job week-in week-out and I'm delighted they will be with us again. Besides, everyone wants an invite to Toops 40th!”

The trio join Adamson and new signings Jim Wigglesworth and Nick Fenton-Wells in the squad for 2014/15 along with club captain James Pritchard and winger Patrick Tapley who both have another year on their contract. Current players also re-signed for the coming campaign include Joe Vandermolen, Charlie Clare and Darryl Veenendaal.
