Blues pre-season in full swing
Bedford Blues have completed their first week of pre-season training which has seen them truly put through their paces by the coaching staff.
Despite it being the hottest week of the year, the Blues were up bright and early on Saturday (July 13) and headed to Bedford Athletics Stadium where strength and conditioning coach Paddy Hogben laid on a host of fitness tests for the laid to complete.
Having worked up quite a sweat, there was no respite as the squad – along with a number of Academy members and trialists – took to the field for three high intensity games of touch before heading back to Goldington Road for a well-earned breakfast.
Monday saw the Blues back at the Athletics stadium for further technical and fitness training before Paddy inflicted further pain with a strength and conditioning master class at Rushmoor School’s field the following evening before the final training session of the week was completed on Thursday.
Speaking about the return to training, Hogben said: “I’m really pleased with the condition that the lads have come back in. We’ve got plenty of work to do before the season gets underway in two months time, but the guys have obviously kept themselves since the final and will be raring to go when the Championship kicks off again.”
Bedford’s first pre-season friendly takes place on Friday August 16 against Northampton Saints at Goldington Road. Ticket details will be announced soon.
