Bedford Blues and Ampthill Rugby Club teamed up at Goldington Road on Tuesday night for a joint forwards training session ahead of a busy weekend for both teams.

With the Blues hosting Plymouth Albion in the Greene King IPA Championship on Saturday afternoon and Ampthill making the journey to Bristol looking to maintain their promotion push as they face the always difficult Dings Crusaders, this was an excellent opportunity to get some 'live' contact training under the belts of each pack.

The full bloodied workout was made even more 'gamelike' thanks to Greene King IPA Championship referee Darren Gamage who came along to officiate preceedings and explain to both sets of forwards why he made the decisions he did during the session.

Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "We've enjoyed a good working relationship with Ampthill for quite a while now and it is fantastic that they were able to come along and join us for a workout. We've both got big games at the weekend so the opportunity to team up with one another and put ourselves through a full contact session with a referee of Darren's experience was a huge benefit to both teams."

You can still purchase discounted tickets for the Blues clash with Plymouth Albion by visiting and Ampthill are next in action at Dillingahm Park against Shelford on 22nd March - the day before Bedford's trip to London Welsh.
