BEDFORD BLUES IN THE COMMUNITY

Bedford Blues are delighted to announce the launch of a new Community Rugby Department which will deliver a range of sports projects and supply quality coaching to schools and organisations in the local area.

The department - which will be headed by a newly appointed Head of Community - has been established following close work between the Bedford Blues Board, Director of Rugby Mike Rayer and former player Matt Price who runs an organisation called Sports in Schools.

With over 250 schools and organisations across Bedfordshire, there is a fantastic opportunity to build stronger links within the community, deliver high quality sports provision and provide sustained support to the next generation of rugby players who could one day pull on a Bedford Blues jersey.

Speaking about the scheme, Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “This is a very exciting development and one that I believe passionately in. Bedford Blues is a huge part of the community already, but we have so much more to offer schools, clubs and organisations, and this project will allow us to become far more involved with the town and the county.

“We want to make a positive impact on the lives of youngsters in Bedfordshire as well as helping to develop talent in a number of ways including high quality and outcome-focussed coaching sessions, school holiday camps and match day experiences.

“All of this will help Bedford Blues become more engaged with the local community while also inspiring youngsters to become more involved with the sport that we all love.”

Matt Price added: “A community department is now a major part of a rugby clubs operational activity and with Bedford Blues being the premier sporting side in the town and being well known as a family and community club, it makes complete sense. It’s exciting times all round and Sports In Schools is delighted to be a part of it.”
