With the pitches at Wellingborough School waterlogged, the Blues Academy U19s game against East Midlands U20s was rearranged at short notice and held on the synthetic pitch at Tresham College, Kettering.  Bedford were down by two tries to one at half time (14pts -7) before eventually losing by 26pts – 24.

East Midlands had the better of the first half, with ex-Blues Academy props Josh Waller and Ben Ibrahim giving EM a strong platform in the set scrum, putting the Academy pack under pressure.  With both sides using large squads, the game was at times a bit disjointed, but EM looked the stronger side for most of the game.  Blues tries were scored by centre Paul Aguele, in the first half, and 2nd row Charlie Harvey, and props Ben Thompson and Leon Patel-Campion, with two conversions from fullback Liam Shields.

Blues Academy Director Denis Ormesher said .… “This was EM U20s first run out of the season, and they looked strong and deserved the win.  We were disappointed with the Blues performance, and we will need to work hard to put a few things right before we play Wasps in 10 days time.”

Bedford:   Henry Peck, Charlie Robinson, Oliver Pescott-Frost, Callum Strachan, Jacob Moody, Harry Peterkin, Rahat Choudhury (capt), Moses Gunda; Callum Tormey, Ben Phillips; Ross Taylor, Max Titchener, Paul Aguele, Matt Shacklady;  Liam Shields: Replacements: Ben Thompson, Michael Bond, Leon Patel-Campion,  Charlie Harvey, Cameron Lawes, Reuben Pritchard, Olly Howard, Archie Clark, Jack Gibbs.
