ACADEMY TENS TOURNAMENT TAKING SHAPE

Final preparations for the second Bedford Blues Under 19s 10-a-Side Tournament, which will be held on Sunday April 24th at Goldington Road, are near completion, with the Bedford Blues Academy squad having their final training run on Saturday, before announcing their squad.

There are some exciting line-ups in prospect.  The Blues first game is at 1.30 when they play Moseley.  The two exiles teams, London Scottish and London Welsh, face each other at 2pm, and Bedford Blues take on Loughborough University at 2.30pm.  Play commences at 12 noon with the first game between London Welsh and Ealing.

The Third Place Play Off final is at 15.45, the Plate Final at 16.15 and the main Trophy Final at 17.00.

Bedford Academy Director, Denis Ormesher, said … “We were delighted with the first U19 10-a-side tournament last year.  The quality of rugby over the whole day from all the teams was excellent, and we saw some quality players, many who will go on to play in the Championship, and maybe beyond in the next few seasons.”

"After the success of last year’s tournament we are delighted to host the tournament again.  The draw has thrown up some interesting matches between a number of sides who do not normally play each other.  After a season of 15-a-side it will be fascinating to see which players cope best with the 10-a-side format.  10s is a great game to watch – it needs all the contact skills of 15s, but the extra space rewards sides who can move the ball and have got pace to finish.  If the rugby is as good as last year it should produce a great day of rugby.”

“If the rugby is as good today as it was last year, we are in for a great day of rugby.”

Thank you to all of the sponsors who have helped make the competition possible, with special note to Main Sponsors Grange, Jaguar and Land Rover, Player of the Tournament Sponsors SDC and Tournament Ball Sponsors Dovecote Park.
