ACADEMY - NEW RECRUITS TO COACHING/MANAGEMENT TEAM
The Blues Academy announce two new recruits to the Academy Coaching/Management team for next season.
Grant Hathaway – Backs/Skills Coach:
Grant will be joining the Academy Coaching team as one of the backs and skills coaches.
Grant works for Saracens running their HITZ programme (Premiership Rugby's award winning social inclusion programme). He is an RFU Level 2 Coach who has a broad coaching experience including Hemel Hempstead club, Hertfordshire County, London and SE Girls, St.George’s School Harpenden, and South of England U16 Rugby League.
Grant, who was born in Hertfordshire, is an ex-teacher, and has a Foundation Degree in Applied Coaching Science from Bucks University. He lives in St. Albans with his partner and their daughter.
David Wheatley – Team Manager:
David will be joining the Academy as Team Manager. David takes over from John Kearsley, who has done a great job as Team Manager this season. John will be coaching the Junior Blues U17 squad next season.
David has been involved with Saracens since 2008 and is currently part of their successful Community Department. David was also part of the Saracens/Active Luton, Field of Dreams/Youth At Risk Project in which he was a mentor and rugby coach. His rugby background includes Rugby League, with Workington Town Academy and Scotland, and Rugby Union with Workington, Newcastle Falcons Development, Cumbria (from U16s to U21s) and England U18 Schools XV.
David, who was born in Cumbria, lives in Luton with his partner and their two children. He works as an IT team leader, and starts a BA (Hons) course in Youth Work at the Open University this year.
