ACADEMY FIXTURES ANNOUNCED
The Blues Academy have announced their fixture list for the 2014/15 season, with what looks to be the strongest set of fixtures for some time.
They kick off the season with a tough opening game, on August 16th, against the Irish province Leinster, who are preparing for the Irish Inter Provincial competition. This is followed by a home game against London Scottish, and an away game against Esher U21 at the end of August. September features four games including Leicester Tigers and a home game against the RAF U23 XV.
With games against five of the RFU funded Academies; Saracens, Northampton Saints, Leicester Tigers, Wasps and Leeds Carnegie plus the U21 sides of the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Loughborough and the RAF U23 XV, the Academy squad have a tough set of quality games to develop their squad in.

Academy Director, Denis Ormesher, said … “The fixtures for this season are the strongest we have had, and we are delighted with how they are coming together. We have a mix of quality U18/U19 opposition from the RFU funded Academies and Leinster, and “over-age” games from the Universities, the RAF and a number of clubs. The RFU funded Academies have the pick of the best young players in the country and these games give us a chance to test ourselves against the best. Playing against older players in the U21 and U23 games really stretches players and helps to bridge the gap between “age grade” and adult rugby. We think this mix is the best way to develop our players, and to see who has got the potential to step up to the Blues 1st XV in the future. We still have gaps in the list in the second half of the season, and will be confirming these games soon.”
