July 2014

Congratulations to 18 year old Blues Academy centre, Nico Defeo, who has been selected for the Italy U20 squad for their four match tour of Ireland in August.  Italy will play the four Irish provinces, Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster, as part of their preparation for this year's Six Nations tournament.

Nico, who captained the Bedford Modern School 1st XV last year, and has just completed his "A" levels at BMS, impressed the Italian selectors, during a week long training camp in Pisa, Italy last week.

Do you have the gift of the gab? Have you got the charm of George Clooney? How about the wit of Eric Morecambe? And fingers crossed you’ll have the rugby nous of Bill McLaren? Well if you can answer yes to these four questions then you could be the person that we are looking for.

After many years of fantastic service, Sam Roberts has reluctantly given up the Goldington Road microphone to take up the fantastic role of commentating on Premiership Rugby matches (another Blue pinched by the Prem!). While everyone at the club is delighted for Sam, it does mean that boots need to be filled.

Bedford Blues players were well and truly put through their paces last night (24 July) after swapping the gym and training field of Goldington Road for the boats and river of Bedford Rowing Club.

As well as taking to the water, the Blues and the Rowing Club were also raising awareness and funds for Testicular Cancer charities.

After Thursday evening’s usual training session, Mike Rayer’s men headed down to Bedford Rowing Club where they were split into a number of teams and then shared amongst the rowing club’s coaches.

Bedford Blues are pleased to announce some significant signings ahead of the 2014/15 Greene King Championship season from Aviva Premiership side Saracens.

England U20 World Cup winners Nathan Earle, Hayden Thompson-Stringer, Nick Tompkins, Maro Itoje and Bedford’s very own Aaron Morris will all be available at various stages of the season on Dual Registration.

Bedford Blues are once again delighted to be able to offer the club’s Season Ticket holders the opportunity to apply for tickets for this coming season’s England Autumn Internationals.

Stuart Lancaster’s squad – which will no doubt include a number of Goldington Road Alumni – have a tough November ahead of them and Bedford Blues Season Ticket holders will have the chance to be at the Test matches against New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.

Talking about the task ahead, Lancaster said: “To be able to take on these teams in successive weeks is ideal preparation for the World Cup and will tell us a lot about where we are one year out.

Bedford Blues would like to inform our fans that we have been experiencing some technical issues with our telephone system over the past few days. While the automated service is working as normal, the ability to leave and for us to receive answerphone message is not.

If you do call the club but are unable to speak with anyone, please do not leave a message when instructed. Instead, drop us an email to info@bedfordrugby.co.uk or try to call back later on.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause and are working with engineers to get this issue rectified as quickly as possible. Thank you.

Congratulations to 18 year old Blues Academy centre, Nico Defeo, who has been invited to the Italian U20 training camp.

Defeo, who captained the Bedford Modern School 1st XV last year, has just completed his "A" levels at BMS, and joins the rest of the Italian U20 squad in a week long training camp in Pisa, Italy.

Blues Academy Director, Denis Ormesher, said ..." We are delighted for Nico.  He has been selected for the U20 camp a year early, and the experience training at this level will be good for him."

Bedford Blues are seeking a Media and Marketing Intern for the 2014/15 season as the club looks to build momentum on and off the field to help improve their communications output.

The role will give the successful applicant the opportunity to work within the professional sporting environment of a Greene King IPA Championship Club for an eight to twelve month period, on a 4 day a week basis including match-days.

The position will give the chosen intern an opportunity to experience life in a fast-moving industry and would ideally suit a student looking to fill a long-term work placement, or a recent graduate looking to break into sports media and marketing.

Bedford Blues are seeking a Strength and Conditioning Intern for the 2014/15 season to work under new department leader Andrew Petts. The role will give the successful applicant the opportunity to work within the professional sporting environment of a Greene King IPA Championship Club.
